Lol! It seems I have this "bad" habit of responding to information with questions. Not sure when that happened exactly ;) So "Mandatory" for who exactly? :/
The Irish one occured recently... Under "legal obligation to complete the form" it stated that "YOU are obliged under statute etc etc..."
I sent it back to the head of the Central Statistics Office asking who YOU is...
The forms have since been collected from houses by their agents but I've received no reply... ?
In the U.S., the census is taken every 10 years. I have never filled out one of their forms in my lifetime. (NO, I will not say how old I am....it's a woman thing so f/o.) I've always just "trashed" the form and the envelope as it was never addressed to ME.
I'm not sure why folks voluntarily fill out this form....regardless of how the envelope is addressed.
So the census agent called to the door...
"We received a census form in our office but it was incomplete, can I get you to fill it out for me please..."
I told her I returned it pointing out that it sates "YOU" are obliged under such and such an act to complete the form and that I wanted to clarify who you is...
She said "you, the householder"....
I said, I'm not YOU though I'm me, there's no one here with that name...
I explained that the Central Statistics Office was a company and that it's my right not to do business with them.
She said the law requires you to complete the form.
"Requires who", I said...
"You, the householder"...
-"That's not my name..."
She said she'll pass it on to the legal department and they'll be in touch...
I told her to tell them to let me know who YOU is...
"YOU, The householder" - Why doesn't it say that?
If documents have "SCOTT" written on them, are you just supposed to PRESUME that it's SCOTT DUNCAN? No?
Then why are you supposed to PRESUME "YOU" means "You, the householder"?
Anything addressed to householder or resident or occupant is returned with PERSON UNKOWN in red marker on the front. The same will be done if their legal department contact me...
When she said the legal dept would be in touch I asked who they were going to write to. She said, you, the householder...
I thought it was pretty funny...
