If a lien is registered for one year, is it automatically renewed and/or does a lien cease to exist at some point in time? If it is not automatically renewed, does that mean the lien has been removed?

Liens are always for a set time period. There is no "renewed".

If you have registered for a year, at the end of the year, the lien (Claim) expires. You have to put a NEW lien on it.
