By responding to the subordinate title of MISTER, and/or responding to the word "YOU," you have in fact gave clear indication you are there in GENERAL APPEARANCE, therefore granting jurisdiction to the court, therefore you acted as, and became surety. If one does not clarify the capacity one is acting on, you are presumed to be there in general appearance. Any gesture towards the court, like answering a question, will always help presume that you are there in general appearance.
