"He created these words by, "changing nouns into verbs, changing verbs into adjectives, connecting words never before used together, adding prefixes and suffixes, and devising words wholly original." (from above wiki) There is no evidence there was in Shakespeares lifetime any concept of authors rights. (85, emphasis added) (re. author's rights) 1908, Matus (not a lawyer) rejects the idea that the common law would not have allowed the publication of a manuscript without the consent of its author, declaring with self-imposed authority http://shakespeare-oxford.com/wp-content/oxfordian/to-01-detobel-author_rights.pdf

Greek and Romance languages add 30,000 words and he only uses 17,000 to 1,700 of those.. Is that even mathematically possible?

Yes, but only if you have new words to fill the gaps. The purpose is to introduce the words. At the time, it was sold as "Olde English", but the GOAL was to make it seem like use of these words made you appear "smart".

Scott Duncan Why did custom prevent noblemen from publishing their own works while still alive (or at least, publishing them under their own names)?

Looking more closely, the same was been done by the Spanish nobility by introducing Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, a Spanish novelist, poet, and playwright. Some refer to Spanish as "la lengua de Cervantes" ("the language of Cervantes"). He wrote Don Quixote de la Mancha. If he really existed.
