I'll be honest. My brain didn't accept the first few minutes of the video. I actually rejected the thought of crypto-currencies. 1. Because I was programmed to 2. I don't understand it Then, after assessing why I did that, I decided to force myself to accept it. The video actually opened up a lot of things to me, although I do not fully understand, I am actually beginning to think of the way that this platform could be used. They mentioned DropBox, and other sites not having a 3rd party involved. AMAZING. I can see why this would be something Government doesn't want released, or why brainwashing would be such a powerful tool to do, as who could ever think there would be a place/time when Government was NOT involved in anyway. DropBox, FB, and other platforms are controlled, I understand that, and having a platform like this where there are 1000's and 1000's of possibilities to create new ways of peer to peer communication would create an alternative relationship without an Governing Agency holding both of their hands. I hope I have that right. Only watched it once, but I can see how powerful it is.

I can also imagine how such a powerful network of dedicated machines could also be used against a specific target, or many targets, and we're talking huuuuge targets... We are the many, they are the few.

Scott Duncan, has the insight, I'm just sharing what I find along the way. I have been reading the white paper and the one thing that stood out was the ether. The issuance model will be as follows: Ether will be released in a fundraiser at the price of 1000-2000 ether per BTC, with earlier funders getting a better price to compensate for the increased uncertainty of participating at an earlier stage. The minimum funding amount will be 0.01 BTC. Suppose that X ether gets released in this way 0.225X ether will be allocated to the fiduciary members and early contributors who substantially participated in the project before the start of the fundraiser. This share will be stored in a time-lock contract; about 40% of it will be spendable after one year, 70% after two years and 100% after 3 years. 0.05X ether will be allocated to a fund to use to pay expenses and rewards in ether between the start of the fundraiser and the launch of the currency 0.225X ether will be allocated as a long-term reserve pool to pay expenses, salaries and rewards in ether after the launch of the currency 0.4X ether will be mined per year forever after that point Today I picked up a couple of raspberry pi's, I was planing to mine bitcoin with asic sticks, think I will wait for the ether.

Ethereum...from what I gather, it's a universe unto itself...decentralised, where we can bring and trade and share our own value, collectively & individually & this will grow exponentially...totally independent of government, nations, taxes, oppressive control, but it can act like a black hole, taking virtually anything from the internet and placing it in a new jurisdiction/universe?!? And I bet I'm not even close to scratching the surface of the possibilities...just a bit mindblown!

Point out that burning churches doesn't change the fact that they are adults with imaginary friends. Burning a church makes them FRIGHTENED adults with an imaginary friend, and that NEVER works out. Ridicule, contempt, and constant berating of their self-imposed ignorance is ALL that works. EVER.

Step 1: Treat mis/dis-information and the people who spread it with the same contempt I do. Step 2: Presume that if you don't get a straight answer to your question, that you are being scammed. There is NO reason to NOT give a straight answer to REALITY. None... except to defraud. These 2 steps will purge the dis/mis-information that is already there. AND QUESTION EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY THOSE THINGS YOU "BELIEVE" ARE TRUE.

Is there not a grand new dialectic at work? Despite the obvious initial benefits of this block chain bit coin crypto tech would it not be fair to deduce an evil brilliance at work here. A seed planted (anonymously NSA/DARPA?) into the public consciousness that via obvious "initial benefits" galvanizes the public to be busy workers in creating the next level of social control. It's no secret the system agenda has been toward a cashless society and scientific dictatorship with sci fi cattle branding et al...so despite this systems initial benefits could it not be the proverbial candy man/child catcher as in the classic, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang film?

"Also regardless of its mysterious origins, is it not possible to re divert the technocratic intent of the medium"? NO! The fact that you ask this means you haven't grasped the mechanism. The `96 "paper" (These are NOT colleagues, Their "papers" say nothing) you mention, speak of "digital currencies", not cryptography-based overlay networks. Implying that "NSA" or "DARPA" are even functioning on the same LEVEL as "????" reveals that you have put VERY FEW pieces together here. Do yourself a favour; NEVER EVER put GOVERNMENT and Satoshi Nakamoto, or any inference of a connection to government together again. You have no idea why that's offensive, clearly. Just dump that line of thought, because all you do by having these "ideas" is reveal your profound ignorance of even the basic mechanism here.

That's the beauty of multiple crypto currencies, created by each of us, in our own banks, interacting on/through an overlay network...it takes the reliance on fiat currency, bitcoin and/or any other medium of exchange not created by us, totally out of the equation...and keeps it for all intents and purposes anonymous and decentralised.

You just don't know when to shut up, do you Blake Gardner? Did you even READ this unqualified, unsubstantiated bullshit you posted? Darpa CREATES NOTHING. Great minds don't work for the government. Bitcoin is the product of great minds... I just finished telling you to stop. You thought some gold shills are equal/better than me when it comes to this knowledge, so ask yourself what makes more sense: 1: DARPA suddenly gets a pool of people who can think and it's and "creates" bitcoin. or 2: People who sell gold don't like the competition, so they make shit up like you. Which is more REASONABLE to "believe" (and it is belief. You DON'T have knowledge or I wouldn't be dealing with this shit stain you've left here)?

If you think some idiots on a gold & silver forum know more than me, then go there. An idiotic hypothesis is still an idiotic hypothesis, even if you form it as a question. Shit stains are NOT welcome here. Implications that the cryptographic currency that put the concept in the real world, came from the government is offensive in ways you are too dumb to understand. Your "time will tell" attitude means you think it's POSSIBLE that DARPA or Government is involved. This means you will always dedicate time to bullshit, and you are of no use here.

Why the fuck do people think THEIR reasons for joining the group are even relevant. Here, let me check my care-factor meter: 0 [.\...........] 100 Nope. I clearly don't give a shit why Paul Wright joined the group. I usually presume that people are here because this is the only place you aren't lied to, or sold bullshit. Is there anyone else who feels like Paul Wright? Speak up you worthless cowards! I do feel obligated to respond as asked: "who you calling stupid you ignorant fool." - Well I'm calling YOU stupid for not knowing where your CAPS key is, and not knowing what a question mark is. I love how barely literate people are always calling me "ignorant", when they clearly don't even know what the word means. When I call someone stupid, it's because they are stupid, and I explain WHY they are stupid (usually because I've dumbed things down so much it hurts, and they STILL don't get it). It's not just name-calling. If you have a weak mind and have no intention of CHANGING that state, then you get treated like the LESSER BEING (who ENABLES those I am fighting), that you are. This has been made VERY clear. And he gets all butt-hurt because HE joined the group to "meet like minded people"...which has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GROUP!

...and why do any of you butt-hurt ass-hats think I care why you joined. This group serves ME and MY agenda. NOTHING ELSE. Something ELSE I've made very clear. So if you feel like Paul Wright, go. Don't come back. As for Paul Wright... Let me turn this over to little Satoshi. She expresses my feelings best:

I get it. Everything of importance/value will be stored in a decentralised manner and will be untouchable !

I found this article. I am looking for what hardware I should buy that I can afford that will allow me to at least keep something in the field here : http://bitcoinmagazine.com/9671/ethereum-next-generation-cryptocurrency-decentralized-application-platform/

Icbeonne Senama, good question. I went to Bitcoin Decentral last nite and both Vitalik and Antony spoke. My understanding is that Ethereum will be laid over the bitcoin protocol. it will be processor intensive ASIC mining making scrypt shovels much less effective. that is my understanding, if I have made a mistake please forgive. Scott Duncan, in what way will we need to modify the hardware we already have to so that we can most benefit from both the current scrypting duties to the future Ether beta release?

Curious to know if it would even be possible to keep the same machine mining dogecoins with GPU, while using CPU for Ether ? Maybe even mining both at the same time ?

No. If you want to do that, invest in Application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology.

DEDICATE hardware to the task, or just study here. Once you are all up to speed in the basics (Doge), i will SHOW you how to convert your Doge setup to a Litecoin setup...in seconds. That's the PXE thing I was mentioning to Pete Daoust in one of his vanity posts filled with GPU porn. WE will be using GPXE and ALL of us will POOL the resources. We will then make the Litecoin setup step back, and then make a CLUSTERED BITCOIN setup at THETENDERFORLAW.COM YOU decide what you want to mine today :D This will be done with customized SLITAZ builds (slitaz.org)

http://slitaz.org/ Those who want to "scout ahead" can try Slitaz with a livecd. If you do, select the "web' option and you will boot the operating system off the internet! You'll even be able to browse Facebook while you are mining. :D

Wow lots of info... My computer guy just had me order parts to build a dedicated machine last week, with 2 7950 cards... We'll start with that... I guess we could just slap one or 2 Monarch cards on that motherboard ? Will have to look into all of that with him...

What is the difference between the slitaz and slitaz rolling downloads? I really have no idea what I am doing. I am going to need to figure out stuff at some point. Might as well start now.

No.6 The documentation is on the website. I am downloading the stable version even though it is almost 2 years old. I suggest people grab virtualbox. That will let you try things out without doing any damage. PM me if anyone needs help.

I think a noob might run into some snags with the instructions as they are. I have it up an running in a VirtualBox Xubuntu 13.10. I clicked the "mine" button...

Scott, It looks like that long string of numbers would be the wallet address? If someone sees that is there any risk of the client being compromised and/or losing wei? If I post it can you send some? I had a billion and 150 at one point but it locked up. When I restarted it I had only the billion after hitting "mine" again.

Oh, my! It hit me. The entire world as we know it can be restarted/recreated using bitcoin/ethereum protocol. Plus, it replaces a system that relies in "our" FAITH, with a protocol we can TRUST. Who ever has a brain, can be co-creator of this new world. (I guess that would be my challenge) Computer science has been blowing my mind these past days.
