David, there isn't any simple answer...
We weren't taught anything more but to TRUST in adults, (I never was told not to talk to strangers), in school we LISTEN and FOLLOW, then told to get a good job where we LISTEN and FOLLOW... not to mention religion... that's one that COMPLETELY COMPELLS my whole family... I think only myself and one cousin of mine threw that crap out the window as soon as we were teens...
