Ask this simple question when you are approaching the bench, before going through the gate: "Do you recognize me as a Living Man?" Make sure you say 'recognize', no other word will make the difference which 'recognize' does. Odds are they won't allow you to enter and approach the bench... and 'charges' should be dismissed.
