Wait until you run into the first asshat who claims to have read Atlas Shrugged, and then quotes this article. You'll KNOW they are lying, and they will point to the article. THAT one is always fun. When you take the time to FORCE the truth down their throat, they still think the lie they told about having actually read it, was ok.

...the point was that you SHOULD read books. Read, think and interpret for yourself, rather than blindly believing such bullshit, hidden-agenda articles that are clearly written by douche-bags with rich benefactors!

Seriously, I challenge any one to read this book, and then try and convince me that she hasn't described the age we're currently living in, EXACTLY.

She had a lot of friends in high places, from what I briefly read about her. Alan Greenspan was one of her close friends.

1084 pages, I'm 501 in :D And as I said, it's making me angry. This is not a new book. And it's a title that gets tossed around a lot. Almost any conversation regarding books with an important social message will at some point mention two, if not all three of the following: George Orwell's "1984", Phillip K. Dick's "The Penultimate Truth", and Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". People are fond of discussing these books and the points they make , but how many then take that knowledge and compare it to the world they live in? It's fashionable to discuss these things in groups, much less so to refrain from settling one's rose-coloured glasses firmly back into place, before facing reality again.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Philip K. Dick box set the other week, maybe I will pick it up. Need a break from law books. His books make the best movies ;-)

No, the MAJORITY will read articles discussing the books, (such as the one that started this thread), and will accept these opinions as fact. The MINORITY will actually READ THE BOOKS THEMSELVES, and form their OWN opinions.

Nowadays, Atlas Shrugged and similar modern literature is reviewed in the same way Christians "review" their Bible.; They speak as experts and don't ACTUALLY READ THE FUCKING BOOK! They then lie, when you point out the reality, by saying "you're taking that out of context". ...at this point the discussion is best handled by bitch-slapping the speaker of such bullshit.

The Moderators won't approve my comment on the actual article, so I sent it privately to Alternet themselves. "Tsk, tsk, Alternet...you should be hanging your head in shame." :p
