charge for breaches of criminal code - unlawful detainment, false arrest, etc., tort law, contract law, trust law, coercion, extortion, fraud, infringement of rights - sounds like they breached them all.
Here is what I think about this....if I get arrested and 2 cops show me a piece of paper and ask me to sign it, and if I refuse they threat me with whatever, let say I get scared.....what would be wrong for me to SAY IT....I AM SCARED PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE....very loud, as loud as I can yell ?....and keep repeating it....just to, at least, releif that fear... :D

intent. intent should have been rebutted, but i'm gathering that you did not ring it up [properly] (acceptable mistake), but also that you had not left the building.
the checkouts are all on overhead video computer surveliance. it knows when somthing is not perfect and/or howelse did security know?
and because you had not left the building you may have discovered and corrected the mistake beforehand. even still immediately did you say to them, if there was an honest mistake lets fix this here and now, we go ring the item up and have no hard feelings...
Thinking of it, I wish a grocery store would trespass on me for fun, I would fucking turn this grocery store into a giant milk shake........just saying :/
That is some astute management who just happened to be observing you and you just happened to take an unscanned item the self checkout just happened to forget to scan out of the store. What shit luck !
